The live play version is so ancient and silly I walked out of it. This movie version is just too creaky and silly. Thing is, it was that way when they made it!

The play is beautiful. Did you see it in it's natural setting, The Ramona Bowl in Hemet, California? Did you see the wonderful permanent (sp?) set that was built for it? Unless you've seen it there, I really don't think you have a way to really comment on it. I haven't seen the movie though, but I'm going to look for it.

That's where my wife said to me "Let's leave!" I took her up on it. Not only that, but I used to live in Ramona. Nice town, silly play.

I haven't seen the play or the movie but how do you account for the success of the play, the movie and the novel. Never been out of print since 1884. The play, I think they've been doing that since the 30's. Not bad!
