I find it funny that Snow White always gets all the praise
when The Fleischers beat Uncle Walt to the punch
in doing convincing 3-D backgrounds.
Yes they did, but it was a very expensive and drawn-out process. Disney's later development of the multi plane camera made it much more economical especially for feature length films.

shareThe greatest animation scene of all time (IMHO)is in this Fleisher masterpiece: The giant ROKH is taking off, Popeye in its talons, with the camera mounted at the right wing tip of the bird, dollying along with the takeoff. The 3D process is never used anywhere for better effect than in this one shot. I'm absolutely mesmerized and thrilled every time I see it!!
