Furnished Rooms - Cathouse?

I wonder if anyone noticed the background in the scene in which Stan and Ollie are throwing small stones at Mrs. McGregor's boarding house in order to attract Finlayson's attention?

In the background there is a door with above it a sign saying 'Furnished Rooms. While Stan and Ollie are doing their thing, a sailor and a young lady come out the door and walk away.

It doesn't catch the attention of viewers at first viewing probably, but I was wondering if this is supposed to be a sly way to show what sailors since time immemorial get up to when they come into port: namely visit a brothel or cathouse.

If so, it was deftly done and 'no one was any the wiser'... :)

Tell me that again!

And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all.

Just watch the scene ... I can't help but think it is as clear as day once you pay attention to what is happening in the background, rather than at what Stan and Ollie are doing ...

I thought it hilarious ... :)

I've wondered about the true nature of the boardinghouse myself.
