Why does this always come on AFTER Mr. Smith goes to Washington?

I just can't figure it out, this movie came first and Mr. Smith goes to Washington was originally going to be Mr. Deeds goes to Washington but they got Jimmy Stewart instead of Gary Cooper so changed the main character's name. But why is it anytime these movies show on Turner Classic Movies, Mr. Smith comes on first and THEN this movie comes on? Mr. Smith was on last night and this is going to be on tomorrow night.

Never noticed that before, but... they are both excellent Capra movies with Jean Arthur, and they both have similar themes, and as you said, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington was almost Mr. Deeds Goes to Washington, so it seems like TCM has some pretty good reasons for putting them on together.

No, not the bore worms! http://www.imdb.com/mymovies/list?l=8093247

A slight correction, Mr Smith Goes to Washington was based on a book, it wasn't ever titled (or going to be titled) Mr Deeds Goes to Washington. It's just an urban legend.

MR. SMITH is a more popular film (though inferior, I think), with a lead , Jimmy Stewart, who is more poular with the general public.

Due to Stewart's work in color Hitchcock classics, Anthony Mann Westerns, and the fact that he kept working and was a celebrity well into the 1990's, he is much better known today than Cooper, who died in 1961.
