Comedy?

This is listed as a comedy drama, but I see little comedy in it. There are light-hearted moments, but little to classify it as a comedy. The story of a melancholy man and his disheartening adventure.
I'm not saying it's a bad movie, it's quite good; however most discussion of it here relates to it being a comedy.

Although classed as a screwball comedy, it is better to see Mr. Deeds Goes to Town as a social drama. Deeds' philosophy would have resounded with cinema audiences upon release.

I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.

of course it's a comedy! Didn't you see that part when everyone is laughing in the courtroom? duh!
