Mr. Deeds Goes to Town: Hasn't Stood the Test of Time

Frank Capra’s “Mr. Deeds Goes to Town” features a pair of great performances from Gary Cooper and Jean Arthur, and a story that is partially compelling, but it’s ultimately let down by an overlong runtime that the film isn’t able to sustain.

Sorry, but I could not disagree more. That article is one person's opinion, and opinions are like....well, let's just say "noses"...we all have one. And I imagine many will disagree.

I think the film was brilliant as it stands, and is absolutely one of Capra's jewels. As to its run time, I did not notice it was overly long. And I get antsy watching some films, never happened to me in this one.

As to the statement "doesn't withstand the test of time"? Way off. The subject matter is in fact *timeless*, and it resonates quite well today. The author of that article just says it, but does not offer any reasons as to *why*, other than to say he thinks it should be shorter.

Mr. Ben Thayer: you are absolutely right. This film has definitely stood the test of time. It's one of the all-time great movies.

Mr. Kubrick, you are a dim wit, with the attention span of a fly.
