Excellent, except for one thing.

Excellent film, except for the annoying "joke" in which that friend keeps pretending that he's an opera singer. If he had tried to sing those few notes only once in the film (near the beginning, with the people listening and laughing at him), the joke would have worked. There was no need for that "joke" to be continued throughout the rest of the movie.

Otherwise it's a terrific film with a tragic ending.
