I voted 9 for The Incredibles and 7 for Modern Times. Now, I'm an avid fan of silent cinema, but for me The Incredibles is simply a better film - wittier, more interesting, and a lot more entertaining. It’s a truly brilliant film, but I guess some people automatically look down on animated films, regardless of their actual merits. BTW, I only gave 9 to two other films this year, and one of them is incidentally a Chaplin film - Limelight (not a typical Chaplin, but the most moving film I’ve seen in a very long time).

It actually makes sense that I like a film like The Incredibles better than I do Modern Times, because as a Keaton fan, I much prefer non-stop action and gags to pathos. In this regard, Limelight wasn’t in-your-face Chaplin-pathos; it was more subtle than that. Notwithstanding this, Modern Times was much better than all the Keaton & Arbuckle shorts I've seen last week, so I'm not complaining :-)

Prog.

Jeez, can you say "pretentious"...?

Has it ever occurred to you that people may like both "The Incredibles" and "Modern Times"?

I'd put both The Incredibles and Modern Times on my list of favorite movies.

You can say that again. Incredible's isn't one of my favorite flicks but I'd never knock it like this guy's doing. It was an enjoyable and well animated family movie. I've seen it several times and can probably watch it several more. The child in his heart must be dead.

In my system, 7 is mediocre, 8 is good or above average, 9 is excellent, and anything rated 10 is virtually immune to opposition on my part. I gave The Incredibles 10. This film came very close to being a 10.

I also voted 9 for Rear Window and The Matrix Reloaded. :-P

9 to the Incredibles, 10 to this!

Also, I gave a 10 to Wall*E. :P

Both 10 from me ;)

Mind if I ask all of you giving both films a 10, why? A 10 means the film is perfect and nothing could be done to improve it. Modern Times is good, but a bit dated and Chaplin use a little too much repetion of his slap-stick jokes; The Incredibles get a little too cheesy now and then, there are details that could have been better, but it is still a very good movie.

I have over 500 titles in my vote history, most of them films, and very very few are a 10 or a 1.

I don't feel an obligation to spam the vote system with extreme vote values, just because the film I watched was a classic, because it had my favourite actor in it or because of the hype. I vote 10 if I find the film that good, but neither The Incredibles or Modern Times are a 10.

If I vote something a 1, then it is one of the crappiest things I have ever seen, and would get that vote even if it wasn't part of a list with input from thousands of users. I admit to voting 1's for some movies I haven't watched, but based on the trailer (and/or director's previous work) that I won't enjoy the film at all.

The same in reverse goes for a 10. My '10' films are things that I absolutely love, and like even more every time I watch them.

What does liking The Incredibles have to do with disliking Modern Times? I thoroughly enjoyed both, but for very different reasons.
