Music question

Please let me know, if the music that sounds during Mr Charlie Chaplin's performance (in the bar in front of the crowds after the complete flop with the waiter carrier) is really written by him. I'm asking because in our country this melody is associated with Odessa, so it is somehow supposed to have Russian roots.

Regards from Russia

my film teacher says that he improvised that whole scene and the song he sang he made it up. It's a mix of Italian and French. Basically it's mumbo-jumbo. i'd love to know the words tho

All right, dear "lynndaloo", let's leave the lyrics alone. But what about that catching tune - had it existed before Mr Charlie Chaplin or was it 100% his composition? Could your film teacher know that?

Thanks in advance.
Andrei

PS I wish I'd had a film teacher at your age.

The song that Chaplin sings using gibberish words is sung to the melody of Je Cherche Après Titine, by Léo Daniderff, a French song from 1917.
