funniest scene

here's mine-

the eating machine, when everything's going wrong was so funny! you can
see exactly what's going on through his facial expressions! they're so funny!
i'm even laughing thinking about it!

what are your favorite scenes?

reply

Definitely the funniest scene. One of the funniest in films ever.

~Formerly known as "eowynmaiar".

reply

For me, the funniest scene was the one where Chaplin accidentally sends a ship out to sea.

reply

Every time he sent something off by kicking the air after it, like the boys and the cow. I cried.

reply

I didn't really like the eating machine. The scene with the skates was breath taking!

reply

I love how he kicks things off! (the kids and the cow) But the eating machine, the corn esp. was just crazy funny.

reply

The thing that made me cackle the most was when he dove into 3 inches of water. Followed closely by the cocaine scene.

Funniest scene, how to pick? The first time I saw the movie it was definately his song...but now...I think the funniest scene, or one of them anyway, is when he interrupts the jail break by bashing the guys' heads against the door and such. Of course, I also love when his boss gets stuck in the machine and he tries to feed him his lunch through an oil funnel and a roasted chicken...and of course, I LOVE it when he goes beserk and tries to tighten the buttons on the woman's skirt and goes about destroying the factory.

The eating machine, Charlie going nuts on the assembly line (unintended pun), and so many more. The one thing I can (unfortunately) relate to is having someone monitor bathroom breaks.

reply

He picks up the flag (red I imagine) that fell off the truck, runs after the truck waving the flag and is suddenly leading a political march. Classic.

I saw this movie in its entirety for the first time the other night. Wow.
I also noticed as someone pointed out in another thread that the music in the scene where the gamin is passing out bananas sounds like the Indiana Jones theme.

reply

The nose powder scene and what follows is my favorite of the funny portions. I love how he was so taken by the powder that he shook some of it into his shirt for good measure.

reply

Except for the eating machine, I loved all the ones at the beggining when he's at the factory.

I also liked the skates scene and the boat scene... and I almost forgot the one where he gets drunk!

Regresa tu mirada... que ya no me desarma... Yo ya no te quiero nada

reply

The boat launching scene was great! Chasing the buxom lady with the wrenches was funny too.

reply

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the song he sings in the restaurant !. It cracks me up with laughter every time i watch it ! xD. I also find the eating machine, Charlie on the assembly line, and the part where he chases a woman outside of the factory hilarious too !.

reply

The scene with the feeding machine is certainly up there for me as well, as is the scene where the Tramp accidentally takes the cocaine and the scene in which he goes a little crazy with his pliers and tries to tighten all the bolts in sight (as well as objects on clothing and elsewhere that resemble bolts). I could go on but those are the three that jump out at me at the moment.

Oh, and the scene where the Tramp is in the office of the jail and has the attack of gastritis.

reply

The boat launching scene was hilarious! And a lesser director would have had everybody in that scene overreact and over play the moment. The Tramp and the other actors just watching in helpless disbelief/realization as the boat drifts off to sea was priceless.

Yeah, they're dead, they're--all messed up.

reply

The eating machine was amazing, especially the corn, but when he watches the half built ship departing....his stance and what was going through the Tramps mind at that moment...that was so priceless.

reply

The bits that made me laugh the most were when he launched the boat (looked like it was sinking to me), and when his cuffs flew off when he was dancing (he needed the lyrics that were written on there because he couldnt' remember the words).

reply

It's very small but it's amazing.

When the tramp and the gamin are sitting on the curb of this depression era nieghborhood cause they have nowhere to go and they see a wife send her husband off to work and she runs back to her house like some uber-happy idiot. I thought to myself, "what a stupid b*itch", and the very next shot the tramp totally makes fun of her. It's so subtle, but wonderfully human. They have nothing, and it kills them, but they still find the time to laugh from something as simple as people watching.
Hysterical!
