I'm only really getting into Chaplin films. I was wondering, as the character of the tramp features in so many of his movies, could you watch, say for example Modern Times, without having watched the older films featuring the character of the Tramp first? Is there much continuity between the films? I guess what I mean is if they should be viewed in order chronologically?
shareOne can definitely watch Modern Times without having watched previous Chaplin movies.
I also watched The Kid and that one doesnt need any watching of other Chaplin movies either. Neither does it matter if you watch first The Kid or first Modern Times, they are about the same character but there is no clear context which is first and which is last.
I havent watched any other Chaplin movies yet. Well I watched The Great Dictator but that one doesnt have the Tramp as character.
