Actually, Rita Hayworth was cast (while she was still Margarita Cansino) but then dropped because they felt Barbara had more box office appeal. While the role was beyond her capabilities because of her lousy accent, she wasn't entirely bad. Still, I would have loved to have seen Rita's take on the role.
