quite surprised to find no comments on this board for this charming film. read the book when i was a young child and thought this to be a rather lovely adaptation as well. freddie bartholomew gave a brilliant performance as did mickey rooney. hope others enjoyed this film as much as i.

cheers.

I agree. This story is a minor classic and one can look at the new versions being produced worldwide to see - there is still an audience for this charming story.

I love this film. Freddie Bartholomew was so charming. I first saw it about twenty years ago and have seen it several times since then.

Not to detract from any of the other performers, but I really think C. Aubrey Smith totally OWNED this film as the British Lord/grandfather of "the new arrival" from America!

My nephew and I recently watched the entire film on YouTube. I'd seen it, of course, many years prior, back in the dinosaur age when VHS ruled, LOL!

I'm late to the party (just saw this film for the first time yesterday), and this film was great! It deserved a much better fate then what it wound up with.

Trust me,

Many people may find this film a bit dated and contrived, not to mention a bit too saccharine, but I still watch it every time it comes on TCM.

Maybe if it gets redone with some car chases, gunfights and sex scenes, it will find favor among the under-40 set. I. however, won't stand in line to buy that DVD, thank you very much.
