Mr. Hobbs, looking at a portrait of one of the "aunt sisters" (ancestors) as he calls them; makes a comment:

...."a bit gay wasn't he?"

The Earl responds:

...."that's why I have the gout."

I literally LMAO...one of the best lines in filmdom!!!

"OOO...I'M GON' TELL MAMA!"

But you have to understand "gay" here in terms of the times. That ancestor was flamboyant, over the top, excessive in his lifestyle. Gout is usually the product of overly-rich diet -- but it's not hereditary.

The "that" he referred to as the cause of his gout was a person in his lineage.
