Desi Arnez cameo appearance

It looks like there may have been a cameo appearance by Desi Arnez in this movie. The elevator operator looks like him. Anyone out there have any info on this?
Thanks!

NOt likely,

Although his family came to the United States in 1933, but from what I can find he was on the East Coast ny/miami until 1940.

The full cast and crews lists even the actors for the hot dog vendor so I would imagine that if he did, it would have been listed

He would have been 19 at the time.

Okay, here's another one: Spencer Tracey's office boy looks like Andy Warhol.

reply

That's Billy Benedict, who always played an office boy or copy boy in the 'thirties. Andy Warhol came along in the '50s? or '60s?

Come along, Mitchell. I think we'll forget the punch.

reply

I thought it looked like Zasu Pitts love child by Joseph Schilkraut.

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

Benedict was Whitey in the Bowery Boys!

Andy Warhol>

Hah. He did have the same crappy hair. That kid did a brief stint with the Bowery Boys in the '40's.

I think it was clearly Desi.

Circumstantial evidence: he was already becoming well known, having worked for Xavier Cugat, who had certain informal Hollywood connections, and within a year's time Desi would begin his own band; Latin band leaders were in strong demand in the 1930's and his appearance would have been interesting and fun to those in the know; and 10 years after this movie, MGM remade it, with Lucille Ball in the Harlow role.

Circumstantial, suggestive, not conclusive.

But using my own eyes, I say Desi was the elevator operator. I noticed it myself watching the movie this evening, before I read these posts.

reply

Sorry, but I just watched the movie. That guy looks NOTHING like Desi! Not him.

reply

I just watched this tonight; went back and paused to look at the elevator operator. No way this is Desi Arnaz. (stronger words withheld).

The elevator boy is played by Buddy Messinger who made a career out of playing bit parts as bellboys, clerks, ushers, messengers, mail deliverers, office boys, and he played elevator operators no less than ten times.
