The Native American 'friend'

Always there to make the white hero look good and noble, in this movie as well as in Broken Arrow, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Dances with Wolves, and the Lone Ranger series.

Oh come on. We know there were plenty of Indian/Settler friendships. The Indians helped the early settlers adjust and survive and in some cases I'm sure the help was reciprocated. We have to remember the story was written by white side of the equation not the Indian side so we're getting that point of view.

History is like that too. We may or may not know what actually took place because the people who won or survived are the ones who told the tale. I wouldn't go taking it personally. If we want to see other points of view in movies and works of fiction, we have to encourage other writers who will identify with a different side and put their own slant to it. You can write one of those stories yourself. Don't complain, just do it.
