Only realistic outcome for poor man Ive ever seen in film

I'm a film buff, big time, film school etc. It's fascinating, b/c this filmis the only film I've ever seen to truly depict what I understand as the middle class during the 20th century. Poor people envy the middle class and wealthy people despise them for being too responsible, but we all know a middle class family is simply one disaster away from poverty-especially a family like the one depicted in this film. We've all be throughly saturated by garbage aspirational films/ and music for most of our lives here in America- well maybe we wouldn't have such high rates of depression and divorce if people accepted what they could humanly do with their lives.
At the same time, The Only Son does show that if you strive you can better your place, at the end he is going to school again- but it's unlikely he will end up in a nice house without terrible industrial sounds,a car, or a livable wage

Not as long as he is focused on academics rather than making money
