Odd coincidence (?)

Just now watching this movie. J.J. Hobart is 59 and is the subject of a $1 million insurance policy. Dick Powell, the star of this movie, died at age 59.

I'm sure Dick Powell wasn't thinking of his own early demise when helping out ol' JJ here. Interesting note in his bio about what helped cause his early death and the deaths of other actors we are familiar with. Very sad....

Yeah, it is quite a coincidence and it's very sad what led to Powell's death at a relatively young age. What's kind of odd is in 1936 when the movie was made people probably thought fifty nine was pretty old. They say things like, 'at his age...' People also seemed to look older in their forties and fifties than they do now.

These days, probably because people live so long and seem so healthy into middle age, we tend to think of fifty nine as fairly young. I'm sitting here thinking it's kind of young even though I haven't reached it, have a long way to go, and don't know that I'll ever get there. It's all in the mindset of the time.
