Blondell and Powell

I've always loved Dick Powell and Joan Blondell; both together and separately, and I've seen them in these types of musicals before. This time it was very different. As I recall, in their previous pairings, they were not each other's love interest as they are in this movie.

I'm glad they were a couple in this movie. I loved seeing their chemistry explode onscreen. Clearly they were in love. They got married a couple months before the movie's release but since I don't know when the movie was actually made I can't tell if they were married while making it. She might have still been married to her first husband but it was obvious she was in love with Powell at this point.

I know they later divorced but at this moment in time they seemed as happy as two people could be. I can't help thinking it was more than just good acting. I've seen other real life couples playing couples onscreen but their love isn't always as obvious as it is in this case.

It was a beautiful thing to see and that made me enjoy the movie all the more.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]
