The Swimming Pool

There's something about swimming pools that brings the most creative work from directors and cinematographers.

The pool scene here has great "pull back to reveal" images by master cinematographer, Arthur Edeson. Director Lloyd Bacon and Edeson did fine work throughout this Gold Diggers episode, even though this 1937 version is not one of the most liked ones by fans of classic movies.

The Hollywood crafts of its Golden Era are on full display here, where excellent work is done by people in front of and behind the cameras.

It was a beautiful scene, but I kept getting the distracted by: what the heck, some of them are in bathing costumes, others in formal evening dress.... that is one weird party.
