Great music, no plot

I'm enjoying the Fred Astaire/ Ginger Rogers morning on TCM today. I've just realized that apparently I've never actually watched Follow The Fleet all the way through, I think I just skipped ahead to the dance numbers. It seemed to me that the actual plot of this movie was completely made up on the spot as they went along with filming it, just to link the musical numbers together. No one could have seriously thought that the goings on in this film made any actual sense. Fred and Ginger were fabulous as usual. My dad actually looked an awful lot like Fred Astaire, and after he passed away in the 1980's my mom found it very hard to watch Fred's movies.
