I find this encouraging.....

I looked at the IMDB pages for several of the actors, and I noticed that in most cases they made a lot of films during the 30's, often 5 or more per year. It's good to know, in this economy, that during the Depression so many films were being made. Somehow it gives me hope that things will start to get better, hopefully soon.

Just wanna say that the depression was during 1929 - 1931. So it was all over by 36. During these years 29-31 not many movies were made, but more than we would expect, though. It was just the end of the silents and the beginning of the sound movie era. What a great timing!?

Not so. The Great Depression lasted basically the WHOLE of the 1930's, and was on a global scale. Some countries didn't recover until after WWII. In the U.S., although the economy showed some (fluctuating) improvement, Unemployment figures remained high throughout the 1930's.
