Who--or what--is Sandor?

I love the movie (just saw it again on DVD) but does anyone know who--or what--was Sandor? I get that he was her servant but he treats her like dirt. I know he wasn't a vampire...but what was he?

reply

Sandor was not yet a vampire, but an 'in between'. Quite possibly a former human lover who succumbed to the Countess' charms. She promised him "Eternal Life", but refuses to give it. Countess Zaleska needs someone still in human form to guard her casket during the day. He had every right to despise the mistress who betrayed him. Sandor knows full well that Garth is the new Chosen One, and wishes to destroy Zaleska as well as Janet and Garth.

Hope this helps.

"I do hope he won't upset Henry..."

Thank u very much joystar:) I did get that he wasn't a vampire but I guess I just missed the other clues.

He was also a jerk. I know the countess did not help herself to get cured, but his constant discouraging words were not help either. As another poster said, he was angry because of not being made a vampire. Such a shame she did not have more courage and belief in herself.

reply

Well she MIGHT have had courage and belief in herself at one time but you're right. He was always insulting her and putting her down. I get that he was mad at her for not making him a full-fledged vampire but were all the insults really necessary? Maybe if he had been nicer she would have given him the "gift" of immortal life.

reply

His being nice to her would not have resulted in her giving him the "gift". It would have resulted in his finally seeing all the pain and suffering that "gift" has caused her. But in his twisted and selfish mind, he probably thought his discouragement and nagging was being nice and realistic.
