Wow! The ending of this movie (LaVond saying goodbye to his daughter but not letting her know who he is), is very touching. You can see Lionel Barrymore choking with repressed emotion.

I completely agree!! I first found this movie, completely unknown to me then, about 20 years ago on VHS at this discount store---after viewing it, I made everyone in my family watch it!! Highly original and entertaining, the effects really blew me away for the most part, and Lionel Barrymore does indeed, "rock"!!! What a tremendous, talented actor!! And, I agree completely with you on the ending---extremely touching and heartfelt. This is a bonafide "classic" all the way, and deserves a lot more attention than what it's been receiving.
