What are the devil-dolls

Are these the same miniature robots that I saw in a black and white photo? In the photo, an elderly man is sitting on a chair in a nice house. Sliding up behind his head is a miniature metal robot holding a spear, the sharp metal point - presumably poisoned - about to jab the victim in the back of the neck. The miniature robot is metallic, but it has a human-looking head that resembles the intended human victim. It has human-looking arms as well. This assassin-robot is about 6 to 7 inches tall. Is this accurate or is it another movie I'm thinking about?

Reverend Kane,

You sound like you know your horror and science fiction movies well. Can you identify the name of this science fiction movie I watched back in 1969 as a child, but now only have vivid but fragmentary memories of it. It was filmed in color. I am trying to identify it. I cannot remember the names of any of the characters. If I could identify at least one, I could track down the name of the movie on imdb.com.

This science fiction movie must have been filmed in the 1960s because I remember it was in vivid color and somehow the styling of the movie seemed to have '1960s' written all over it. Remember it is 1969 when I watched this movie.

It takes place in the future. Now I can't be certain if it was somewhere out in space or undersea, more likely the former. I remember one scene where there is a huge science lab. There are nefarious science projects taking place. The scientists there are manufacturing what looks to be 12-inch long human beings, stored inside glass or plexiglass, cylinders. There are small towel cloths on top of the faces and covering the privates. Another scene depicts some scientists placing one of the cylinders into a large metallic chamber. After a time, they pull out a full-size human on a metal gurney from the chamber. I can't remember what their purpose was in fabricating artificial humans. The scientists then have to make the artificial human come alive by placing a respirator on top of its face.

I do not recall any outdoor scenes. Everything takes place inside this large space station, ala Deep Space Nine-type, because I remember a scene in the station where it's a public area and people of all kinds are walking around. It's not a closed facility. It's somewhere where anyone can travel and visit and sometimes has the feel of a airport in space.

I remember that there are villains but of the nefarious corporate and government type. There seems to be killer androids walking about. All of these droids look the same, a 6-foot tall white man, bald, with a black fedora hat, black suit, and a black cape. The droids have a unique way of dispatching targets. One of them envelops a teen boy within his cape and afterwards all that's left of the boy are his clothes and tennis shoes. One of the bad people, a lady associated with the secret organization hides the boy's clothes in a bag. The droids can be killed. But now I remember the special effect as being cheesy. The weapons used by the good and bad guys are laser pistols apparently made out of clear polymer because you can see the mechanism inside. It fires a laser beam which takes the effect of a short flash of sparks. When fired at one of the droids, the man-like android assassin opens his mouth in a silent scream - no sound - and falls down. That's it, as far as I could remember. One scene I remember shows one of the black-clad, man-like android killers quietly walking up behind one of its intended victims, a frantic, hysterical man trying to escape the bad guys. The droid is almost upon him when one of the good guys appears around the corner and shoots the droid with his unique plastic laser pistol. Again there's the 4-inch long flash of sparks from the ray gun and the droid from 20 feet away falls down dead. After that my memory fades. I only remember one more scene where the space station is collapsing in upon itself. One of the large science chambers is filling up with red liquid, which looks like fruit punch to me. Someone inside is struggling to get out and I can't remember who it was.

Can you jog your memory and find out what movie this was? All the characters were speaking English, American or British, I'm not totally certain. But I am sure the movie was not dubbed, so whether it was a European science fiction movie, I don't know, but then it would have been of British manufacture.

Thanks.

Okay, this response is very late, but you never know what you are going to come across on another film board. The movie you are describing is one I also saw as a kid, and I didn't know the name either..... UNTIL I saw TCM had a couple of movies about people being shrunk down. I took a gamble and set the dvr. Low & behold, it was the movie from 40 years ago. The androids actually had 4 arms, 2 miniature arms that they had under their trench coats to inject and shrink people while the regular and held the people captained.

The film was on another planet and it was also on earth. It was an Italian film called Wild Wild Planet. A Google search or two with images should be a decent reminder of the film. Hope this helps.

On imdb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059914/?ref_=fn_al_tt_5

Oh, the androids didn't wear Fedoras, they wore military style black caps that are way too small for their heads. I think you are confusing the android image for the same reason I did. An old issue of Famous Monsters had a cover with a similar looking character on the cover, which I believe was actually Peter Lorre. Trench coat, sunglasses, Fedora.
