Desire and Spain

This is a wonderful movie that was set in Spain. As a spanish, I'm glad they didn't portrayed my country with all those old clichés: A rural country with flamenco, spanish guitar, "palmas", bullfighters, gipsyes, etc... Yes, those spanish symbols exists (like it or not) but there are a hundred of things besides that. Those clichés where used in the terrific "The devil is a woman", and were used "correctly", because the movie was set in Andalucia. And that Spain portrayed in all Hollywood pictures is typical Andalusian.

So, when I watched this picture for the first time, it surprise me that were set in North of Spain (not in the south, Sevilla and all that stuff) and were portrayed with a more "realistic" image of the 30's in Spain. That was just one year after the civil war, and then came 40 years of fascism. Thank God, today Spain is very different, modern and more european.
