Only saw the last part -- what happened in the beginning?

I tuned in right when the aunt was leaving. What happened with the murder-suicide couple? Was Harriet involved in some way?

reply

No, but her husband was visiting the man in question before the murder/suicide. That was his only involvement, and the police seemed to believe that was the case, but was only trying to tie loose ends before closing the investigation. The couple was only there to serve as a caution for Walter.

Mr Craig went to visit the murdered man the night before. They were supposed to play poker but the other men didn't show up. The guy was upset about that, and complained that his wife treated him with contempt (she still went out with a friend for the evening). The murder happened after Craig left.

Before he left home for the visit, Craig left a note with the phone number in case anyone needed to reach him. When Mrs Craig got home the next day, the note was still on the table. She was suspicious and called the operator to find out who the number belonged to. The phone number was flagged because of the murder, and the operator called the police. So it was Mrs Craig's suspicious call that triggered the police coming to the house. She lied to the police and then had a fight with Mr Craig about the whole thing.
