original inspiration for this Swedish stereotype?

Such as the pronunciation and use of "yumping yiminy" and the other "Swedish" mannerisms of Walter Brennan in this movie. Or was it already established by Brennan or other actors, perhaps in vaudeville, before this movie? I have seen early cartoons that seemed to have been modeled very closely on this portrayal.
