Criminality
Could the guy doing the commentary use that word anymore. lol
Politicians, ugly buildings, and whores all get respect if they last long enough.

Yeah, I tried listening to him tonight and couldn't make it through. I like commentary to have a good mix of scholarly interpretation, production backstory, and general trivia. This guy is all interpretation.
He's really repetitive and has this annoying habit of using these long words when shorter versions of the same word would do just fine in context. Like "criminality" when "criminal" would do just fine. Or "rationalism" when "rational" would do.
Sorry, I could illustrate this point better but I don't feel like backing it up and listening to it again.
The commentator may very well be too repetitive, both in the points he makes and in his word choice.
However, the word choices that you cite are *not* examples of using a long word when the shorter one will do. "Rationalism" is a noun (as in "He consistently displays rationalism in his thinking.") and "rational" is an adjective (as in "He is a rational person."). They can not be simply substituted for each other in a sentence. The entire sentence structure has to be changed to be able to use the other word.
The ciminal / criminality pair is a simlar case.
And don't forget 'discourse' and 'gangsterism'. This guy was not too good. if you ever get a chance to check out the commentary on "The Petrified Forest" it is much better than this.
shareYeah, commentary should be more a conversation than a lecture.
