Tearful last scene...

Never been much of a Cooper fan but the last scene filmed with him at the window gets me every time. It was so well acted. I can't conceive of a more moving scene and he did it. The last image of him after he says goodbye to her he frowns, so subtly, like a very young child who has just lost somebody and doesn't quite understand what has happened. It's terrible for him and you're glad it's just a movie. The strings playing enhanced the effect also. Cheers King Vidor!

I agree - that scene was moving, and by far the best scene in the film for me. I misjudged Gary Cooper - I figured he was just another pretty face, but once I started watching his movies, I'm amazed every time at what he did, and as you said, some of those things are so subtle, yet speak volumes. Sgt. York is probably my favorite, and he definetly deserved the Oscar for that role.

It was a beautifully filmed scene, very moving indeed, especially when he "sees" Manya once more.

However, I couldn't help feeling bad for the wife, LOL. Despite she was willing to fight for getting her husband back, she acted very "mature" once she realized it was useless and also was very compassionate towards the "other woman".
