I'm 17 and I love those movies... but my fav has to be On the Town with Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly...ect....

reply

no! i am 14 and i am in love with everyone from that decade!!!!! i am mainly obsessed with frank sinatra, and no one knows who he is either. my lit. teacher tries to outsmart me with stuff like that like no u cant do an article about fred and ginger for our 1930's newspaper b/c they were only in the 40's...i told him!!! teenagers are stupid...im only allowed to say that because i am a teenager..if anyone else said it it would be mean. if they dont know who frank sinatra or fred astaire or if they are like all the people at my school who dont know who coco chanel is, its their loss, not ours.

I've been a Fred Astaire fan since I was about 5 years old. Back then I'm told that my off-key rendition of "Cheek to Cheek" with the occasional flubbed line ("and my heart beats so that I can hardly shreak...") was cute. Now that I'm 31 it's just annoying though.

At any rate, it's good to see there are still young people who appreciate the classics.

i totally agree..im 13 too and im a big ginger rogers and fred astaire fan..my friends see their pictures on my binder and they ask me who they are and im like come on they're the BEST screen team ever!!!! only 2 of my friends have seen movies with fred and thats cool cause we talk about the movies at school so yeah im getting everyone i no to remember all the stars of the golden age

Top Hat was made in 1935.

SAME HERE!!!I was showing my Science teacher this website called 'Pinterest' and a picture of Katharine Hepburn popped up. I told her she was one of my idols and she just gave me a blank stare. We started talking about movies and I couldn't believe how much she didn't know about anybody from that time period! There is only one person I can talk to about old movies with and it is quite frustrating. I really wish that we could take a time capsule back to the 30s and show the ignorant teenagers how awesome life was back then. As for Coco Chanel, most people recognize the last name from the disgraceful fake purses they carry around which is just an insult to the class that she brought to the fashion world

Toto, I don't think we're in Georgia anymore

I didn't even know who Fred Astaire until I first saw Top Hat at age 16.

Once I discovered him though, I couldn't get enough of him. I was hooked.

I am so glad so many young people are watching these movies! I started watching them when I was very young. My sister and I even memorized some of the dances (I was Fred, she was Ginger) I have kids of my own now and they like these movies too. My younger son is more of a Gene Kelly fan, loves Singin' in the Rain. Best scene ever with Fred and Ginger is in Shall We Dance when they dance on roller skates. We tried that too but, um, we were not too successful! I think all you 'kids' are the best!

I'm 16 and i think i've always loved old movies cos my nan and my mum used to get me to watch them all the time so i was kind of interested but then sort of not until December 23rd 2003 at about 3:00pm when "Singing in the Rain" was on and that was 1 of the only classic films i could remember (well that and "THE WIZARD OF OZ") so i watched it, then again and again, then i developed a huge obsession with Debbie Reynolds and i liked Gene Kelly. I would tape some of their films of tv or go out and by them. But sometime last year, i can't remember what it was that triggered me off, but i developed an even bigger obsession with Judy Garland. I have bought loads of dvd's and videos and memorablilia or Judy and Debbie off Amazon and EBAY etc that its practically a second home. I also love Fred and Ginger (obv) Cyd Charisse, Gene Kelly and Doris Day among others but they are my main ones.

But i am ashamed to say i am embarrassed to talk about it. Most of my family know about it, but what upsets me is that the people who made me watch them when i was little don't care anymore. My mum doesn't like me talking about Judy or Debbie and thinks it's weird and not normal for a 16 yr old gir. And even my nan who was born in 1942 gets fed up with me talking about it. My dad is nice about it which is weird cos he's kind of a goth. But he'll call me and say "Lyndsay, have you got "Love Finds Andy Hardy? no? well i'll order it for you" i mean last week he bought me Judy's autograph c.a. 1948 (She looks so beautiful on it) and it says "Sincerely Judy Garland".

Some of my friends know about it and one or two of them buy me Judy memorablilia for my birthday or Christmas which is really nice. But some of the others who are into rap and hip hop and stuff like that i'm afraid that they'll judge me.

I mean we just moved house and my dad said he would decorate my room. He was goin to paint it then draw old movie stars on the walls. Fred and Ginger dancing "Cheek to Cheek", Judy (obv), Debbie, Gene, Cyd etc. But i don't know because if i have people over i'm afraid they'll judge and laugh at me. I'm not a confident person, but i would love to have the guts to just say "So what? i love old movies, i love Judy Garland and fred and ginger etc... deal with it!!!" but i cant

Also if one of my friend mentions an old film like "The Wizard of Oz" for instance (you know something almost everyone has seen) then i just can't help myself...it's like word vomit, i just start reciting trivia about the film, Judy, the munchkins etc. So they know something is weird but i can't admit it.

If anyone has any advice on what to do please reply or e-mail me on [email protected]

WOW!!! That was a long letter!!!
