First time viewer of this remake

So, I just watched this for the first time on Thanksgiving after checking it out from the library and now I'm hooked. It was great! Intense. Filled with action. Adventure. Quick romance. Danger! It was a thrill ride for someone like me who doesn't often watch older movies. I'm 34 and I usually try to watch everything.

So, I started doing some research. Found out it was a remake of a story that comes from a novel, and was actually remade several times before this version was made and remade again several times more afterwards. I for one appreciate remakes. I've seen every version of Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice on film and welcome the many takes on (and twisted versions of) the Oz novels by L. Frank Baum.

Anyway, I'm anxious to see more versions of this story and want to find the novel. But can the other versions top this one? The first version I've seen?

Computer says, "No."

The remakes are fun in their own right but they do not hold a candle to this epic.

There is the '65 version which i rather like;

but this '35 film is a kind of an epic indeed.

i wonder at your knowledge,go get the novel,read it and then see this film,you will come to know that this film is almost 40% of the novel,rest the director has changed so much.
i am finding the "65" version,to give better reviews.

No way, purily as a film the 1935 production is amazing and better than the 1965 version. I do not mind the changes between the script and the Original Rider Haggard story.
