Marley

Marley's voice sounds like Claude Rains to me.....

Sounds like Claude to me, too.

Perhaps he's reenacting his role from "The Invisible Man"....

That had to be the worst Marley of all the movies I've seen on this book. "No one can see me but you?" They are some cheap SOB's to have him invisible. No doubt one of the worst Marley on the silver screen.

reply

Yep. It isn't as if the necessary special effects was unknown. Marley's face appeared on the doorknocker as a double exposure so this trick photography could have been done instead of the "No one can see me but you" cop out.

I'm tellin' ya ... what was keeping them from patting the guy down with a little flour ... put some fake chains on him and there you have it ... I think this version and the one with Leo G. Carrol as Marley are the worst.

reply

I have always believed it was done that way because they overspent on the Lord Mayor's dinner scene.

reply

I wouldn't doubt it. They should have save the money for the scenes of importance.

No Marley in this film. We was robbed.

The best revenge: Live well, enjoy life and be happy. Drives any haters crazy.

You would think they could have at least shown Marley like they did in the 1951 version. The Lord Mayor scene is irrelevant to the story and is not in the other movie. That's at least two reasons why the Alastair Sim film is considered the best version of A Christmas Carol.
