HMV exclusive UK DVD release

This lesser known film of Astaire and Rogers has been released in the UK, exclusive to HMV.

I stumbled upon it the other day in store and I couldn't believe it that 'Roberta' finally had a DVD release in the UK. A tip for buyers - get it from HMV website as it's about half the cost than in the shop...

I've had this film for years on a grainy VHS copy from TCM and I'm finally going to upgrade! The cover artwork is lovely too, I'm not sure if there are any extras..

This movie has always been available on DVD in the states however it was unseen for decades due to MGM buying the film to remake it as LOVELY TO LOOK AT - I don't think anybody saw it in America from 1951 until the 1980's. (The U.S. DVD has a 1935 MGM cartoon and the wonderful Technicolor short STARLIT DAYS AT THE LIDO with cameos by Clark Gable, Robert Montgomery, Constance Bennett, John Boles, and several others, as well the movie's trailer and a vintage radio promo show for the movie which featured songs lifted from the movie.

can't say i'd heard of mgm's version and they obviously liked rko's version more than the stage version as the two songs that were in the film but not the stage version were carried through.. i can't say i've found it easy to find any of the astaire-rogers films on dvd in the uk, and as for saying roberta has always been available on dvd in the states, dvds haven't been around for decades...

Why no extras on the UK release of the DVD? I imagine Astaire/Rogers fans here would have been happy to pay for what American buyers are getting.

who was it released with in the states? different distributors seem to own the rights to the astaire-rogers musicals in europe and the states which would account for no extras :( i'm hoping to get the us boxset once i have cards again and the ability to play region 1 dvds

Warner Bros. releases RKO-Radio (and MGM) movies on DVD in America, in addition of course to WB movies. http://www.amazon.com/ROBERTA-Fred-Astaire/dp/B000K2LB7O/ref=sr_1_7?ie =UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1277052690&sr=1-7

The movie is no longer in print as available as a "solo release" in the USA (although you can buy it "new or used" from dealers who have it still) but it's available in the deluxe Astaire/Rogers boxset (the boxed set is also available in two smaller sets for people who don't want to spend all that money at once)

Of course, I meant as long as DVD has been around it's been available (it was on VHS earlier and probably laserdisc as well).
