Someone mentioned garbled dialogue but did anyone notice two or three lines of William Powell's dialogue that were dubbed over by a different voice? One example is in the restaurant after Powell leaves Binnie Barnes and goes to another table. I think another was in the laboratory.
shareJust watched the movie tonight on the DVR and noticed the same things. It was as if they wanted to change/obscure the name of the country for which Cesar Romero's character was spying, and the name of Romero's character-- those always seemed to have been overdubbed.
I did a little research on google and discovered an original review of the film from the New York Times:

In that review, Romero's character is called "Nickolajeff." Meanwhile, wikipedia's entry on the film:

Lists Romero's character's name as "Captain Nicholas Nieterstein."
So, the name was changed some time between the original release and subsequent screenings? Who was it that the studio didn't want to offend?
