Bad production values/direction choices

I watched a good part of this movie on TCM the other night, and I was surprised at the professional lapses. Bad editing/continuity, body positions changing in quick cuts. I was also surprised at the use of the stagey diction used, especially by Roz Russell. I don't associate her with that. I'm thinking "His Girl Friday". Maybe it's her social position. William Powell uses it a lot, but I expect that.
The second part, well, OK. But the first part is a distraction from what otherwise seems like a decent movie. Doesn't spoil the film, but brings attention to itself. Roz Russell is cute as hell, and makes a good paring with William Powell.
