this movie aired last night and abunch of people posted about it.
Now the post is not showing up.
At least not for me.

Anyone For anyone still lurking around from last night.
what did you think of the Raven?

I enjoyed it.
Thought Bela was pretty strong in it.
You could tell he was into the material and this was not one of the movies he just did when he fell on hard times.
Was a cool plot with all the stuff in the house too. Fun late night old school horror.

This is one of the better films to feature Lugosi and Karloff together. Bela is at his diabolic best and Karloff once again meshes horror with pathos. I love the way that they two of them kept jockeying for power.

Bateman threatens Vollin with a gun. Vollin betrays and imprisons Batman. Batman turns Vollin's pendulum trap against him. Vollin blackmails his way out of it. It all builds up to that final powerful altercation at the end.

Even though Karloff received top billing, this was definitely Lugosi's film. He owned and dominated the role of a man who, while mortal, was every bit as evil as Dracula himself.

There was a surprising amount of dark content for a film of this era. I think they did a really good job of it. The only nitpick is the rapid turnaround where they cut from a truly grim fate to a joke about a man and woman sleeping. (Seriously?)

I still like The Black Cat better, but this was a really good one as well.

IMDB often deletes whole sections of members' comments for no apparent reason. It's annoying but I guess they don't have that many servers to hold all this stuff. Too bad. It cheapens the whole experience not being able to see one's own writings many years afterwards.
