An early movie about mental illness

I found this movie to be entertaining. Certainly it's not in the same category as "Snake Pit." The ending surprised me: Spoiler ahead:

The fact that Boyer and Colbert would get together was entirely predictable. What was surprising is that it took so long. I noticed with only 1 minute remaining in the movie, still there were no "I love yous" spoken. Finally,and even almost suddenly, with 20 seconds remaining, Boyer says that he loves her. They hug and the movie ends.
