As part of a research project, I'm in need of the script of Princess Tam Tam. Does anyone know how to find one? It has not been published in book form and cannot be found either among UCBerkeley or UCLA's archives. Suggestions?
shareSorry, no, but I just saw it at the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles. they showed it with Zouzou. I found both very interesting. I was amazed how little racism was presented in either movie. None in Zouzou and a litte in Princess Tam Tam. There was a bit of the noble savage idea that the end when she is given the nice home and we see it full of hens and goats.
I am ashamed that the US could never have made a movie at this time staring an intellegent, thoughtful african american women.

The plot does highlight the bigoted attitudes the colonial French had about Tunisians in that era. How many times did they compare Tam Tam to an animal? I am watching it now.
