shareSorry, David. I saw this film only once on British tv about 13 years ago and I've never seen it since. I keep looking for it on DVD, but I've had no luck. You're right - it is a great film and has stuck in my memory all this time. I guess we'll just have to keep on looking!
shareI have a copy of this film taped from Chanel 4 some years ago. Can transfer on to DVD and let you have a copy if you are still interested. Send a post back to this site then I can arrange for copy to be sent. Quality quite good I think.
shareHi alkborough is there any chance you could do a copy for me? I have been desparately trying to find this since my old VHS copy got wiped!!!
Cheers
Ann

Lorraine Mae, thank you very much for this link. I downloaded the film and have just finished watching it. It was wonderful to go back again to something that had dimmed a little in my memory and have it refreshed. A calming, enjoyable and mesmerising film. Dated, to be sure, but Conrad Veidt and Rene Ray rise above the staginess of the material to convey real warmth, charm and mystery. Of course the Christ metaphor is very striking, but there are also hints of the legend of the Wandering Jew or Melmoth the Wanderer. Indeed, whenever I read the latter, I always cast Veidt in the lead role!
Thanks again for the link - such a pleasure!
Veidt's character describes himself as a wanderer in the film, which is a gem. I watched it because of Veidt and he doesn't disappoint.
I give my respect to those who have earned it; to everyone else, I'm civil.share
