Had he given her syphilis

This is a wonderful cast in a piece of trash designed to push the idea that men having sex with women outside their marriages is okay and women should put up with it. It might have been an interesting film if the central idea were that Robert Montgomery's smirking character had given Joan Crawford's unbelievably long-suffering character syphilis, and she'd reacted appropriately. Franchot Tone is completely wasted in this, as is Edna May Oliver.

Hear, hear! It usually exasperates me when people apply today's social mores to older movies when things were obviously much different, but I take exception in this case. Robert Montgomery should have been booted out on his ass the minute he showed up after his dalliance with Gail Patrick.

Even the usually amusing Charles Ruggles was tiresome as drunken cousin Edward. Edna May Oliver was the only bright spot in the movie.
