Was TCM trying to be politically correct?

When Fiorello says he manages the greatest tenor in the world, and Otis says what's his name, he says "What do you care? Some Italian name, I can't pronounce it." I just watched this on TCM and "some Italian name" was cut out. What happened?

You've got me?! Who's got you?!

reply

which is strange since both the characters of Chico and Fiorello were Italian, so that would have merely been funny.

reply

Uh huh, someone must have thought it was too critical of Italians.
