New Adventures of Tarzan, The (1935/I)

Herman Brix (Bruce Bennett as he was in 1935) is probably the most like Burroughs had in mind as Tarzan, with the possible exception of Ron Ely. They both fit the duel English nobleman/wild man role, while I'm afraid all of the others were acceptable as wild man but would not have made a convincing scion of English noble house. This is mostly due to the lean, tall body type and the fine facial features.

It's fairly common knowledge in the area of Tarzan fandom, that Brix/Bennett was actually the first choice in 1931 for the start of the MGM series, but an injury from an earlier movie put him out of the running. And this serial was actually made with involvement from ERB (though contrary to popular belief, ERB did not hate or dislike the Weissmuller series).
