John Hyams and Leila McIntyre

One of the few highpoints of MURDER IN THE FLEET is the rather unpleasant society couple who are among the visitors to the ship, played by John Hyams and Leila McIntyre. These two are obscure character players of the day who almost always played unbilled roles as they are in this film. I was quite surprised and delighted to learn via IMDb that not only were Hyams and McIntyre married in real life but they were also the parents of Leila Hyams, the well-known leading lady of the era (note Leila Hyams has her mother's first name to go with her father's last name). The senior Hyams acted in eight additional pictures together but I'm unsure if they played couples in them:

Swell People (1930)
Her Secret (1933)
Footlight Parade (1933)
A Night at the Ritz (1935)
The Plainsman (1936)
Mister Cinderella (1936)
Pick a Star (1937)
The Housekeeper's Daughter (1939)

It's interesting that both parents' film careers were longer than their far more famous daughter's; Leila Hyams retired in 1937 but John Hyams was still active in pictures at the time of his death in 1940 and Leila McIntyre continued on in unbilled bits into the early 1950's. Fascinating the stuff you can discover on IMDb!
