I think it's whacky that Spencer Tracy, Jimmy Stewart, William Demarest and George Chandler were all working on the same story!

And Lionel Atwill was the chief detective!

I thought for sure it would turn out that Atwill was the murderer! I always think it's Atwill. It's like all those Lugosi movies where you're sure that Lugosi must be the killer!

If Atwill and Lugosi are in the same movie, I don't know what to think. I run around in circles until I fall down.

Tracy and Stewart worked together at the Daily Star but Shorty (Stewart's character) was an up and coming reporter while Steve (Tracy's character) was the BMOC. The other guys were from competing newspapers.

I thought for sure it would turn out that Atwill was the murderer! I always think it's Atwill.

What motive would he have for killing the guy? If he was revealed as the killer it would have been out of the blue and a bad ending in my opinion. The real killer had motive; at least in his own mind but even if we hadn't guessed it, we could see, looking back, that everything fit.
