Yeeeesh... that silly, high pitched voice on Jeanie Roberts... guess thats why she only made 10 films, and 8 of the parts were "uncredited"...

Many don't know she went on to become Zasu Pitts stand-in and president of the Folco Lulli fanclub. Such a gal!

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

Her voice may have pigeon-holed her as far as parts are concerned, but it should be noted that back in the 20s, 30s or 40s, unless you had a sizeable role, you were generally uncredited in films. basically, there was one page of acting credits and if you weren't on it, it was considered uncredited.

She was one of a million comedic character actors and actresses who may have been hired by studios, but never became as well known as Sterling Holloway, for example. She had a funny-sounding voice, but it would have been torture to have her in more than one or two scenes in a single film.

If you want to hear a fun version of that votive check out The Asylum Street Spankers. The singer sounds just like her....On some pretty risqué songs. Sounds just like her

Imagine having to live with that voice! I think the audiences back then liked unusual voices and found them fascinating. There were a lot of them in movies. The kid who played Froggy on our gang comes to mind. He was also in Gentlemen prefer blondes with Marilyn Monroe. There were many others too; especially women but I don't know their names or remember which movies they were in. Like in this movie, they were usually bit parts. People could only take so much.
