Skip the Musical

This is the version I grew up with. If you want to read the book, it's well over 800 pages with about 100 devoted to detailing the Battle of Waterloo. This movie was so compelling it drove me to read the book. This thing they are passing off as a musical just looks awful. I heard too many people walking out on it...and this is when Broadway was almost affordable, and you really can't hear what the hell is going on. They should make people watch this first.

The book is at least 1400 pages, 1500+ in some editions. If yours was only 800, you read an abridged version. The musical movie was great, as was the stage musical, the most beloved stage production of all time. Read the book, see this version of the movie, the 1934 French version AND see the musical movie. That's my advice. Just avoid the 1998 film at all costs.

You're advising people not to watch the musical, even though you've never seen it? Maybe you should watch it before passing judgement.
