Before there was Daniel Day-Lewis . . . .

“Before there was Daniel Day-Lewis, there was that guy!” is how, in the wake of Shirley’s passing, I posted on facebook to being “a sucker for some of those movies, mostly ‘The Littlest Rebel,’” and I advised my fb friends to check it out, particularly that scene at the end with Abe Lincoln.

In a subsequent post, I noted the movie had a lot going for it, including Shirley tapping with Mr. Robinson, the Polly-Wolly-Doodle song, an engaging story, plus That Scene, now identifying the actor (“that guy”), Frank McGlynn, Sr., and later discovering he became famous for playing President Lincoln on stage as well as on screen.

Who agrees: Before there was Daniel Day-Lewis as Abe Lincoln there was Frank McGlynn, Sr.?
