Political correctness goes too far

I see nothing offensive about this cartoon, for one thing a lot of it could be interpreted in two different ways.
I do see how it could offend a small number of people, but everything in the media is going to offend somebody somewhere sometime.
That's no reason to ban it.
I think this world would be a much nicer place to live if so many people would stop looking for things to be offended about.

Next thing you know some .org like PETA will jump on "Tom and Jerry" because "It makes cats look stupid."

Good Grief!

Thats because you are an idiot. If you don't think that this cartoon is offensive you need your brain examined. The 20th century was messed up.

HAHAHAHA!
Nice way to disagree!
Your reply is quite rude and very offensive.
Sad thing is, the show is just a cartoon, and you're Real.
I would say it's one-up on you.

I don't care if its just a cartoon or not its still has racist stereotypes in it.

Well actually, my point is that it should not be banned, regardless of anyone's personal opinion it is a part of cinematic history, would you also ban "All in the Family" and "The Jeffersons"?
Both Archie AND George were racist's, and made no bones about showing it, stereotypes included.
You can't possibly believe you can abolish racism through censorship, and while I don't think this cartoon is appropriate for a saturday morning kiddie show, I also, as a grown adult, do not need "Big Brother" telling me what I can and cannot watch. Hitler did that,(Books, radio and speech) it's called facism.

But I'm sure that in a few years, someone like you will get elected, and we will never hear George say "H*nky" ever again.
Shortly after that we'll be shouting Sig Heil.

I write the following as a white person belonging to a particularly demonized minority (that of the Jewish people):

I am god-damned sick of these white people who can't understand why Sambo, Song of the South, and Bojangles Robinson might be offensive.

Look - it was offensive then, its offensive now. If Little Black Sambo was a cherished part of your childhood then that's great, but make an effort to understand the most painful troubling issue of the American psyche - that for the first 90 or so years of our independence, millions of Americans were OWNED, physically OWNED BY LAW, by other Americans. And for 100 years after that, most blacks in the south could not vote.

You ever see a picture of a lynching? It's not hard, because they were published as POST CARDS (along with Little Black Sambo). Google 'lynching' and click on 'images' and look at those grinning people, so satisfied with their cold blood murder. They may have grown up with Littel Black Sambo too.

Your old Sambo book may have inspired countless happy memories. Bojangles COULD dance, and it IS a pleasure to watch him. And zip-a-dee-do-dah is still lovely when it's sung by cartoon animals.

But if you can't bring yourself to learn enough about the history of YOUR OWN COUNTRY to understand why people find Sambo offensive today and why they found him offensive 100 years ago, I think you've got bigger problems than criticism of the 'possibly' racist story of Little Black Sambo.

I know my history, can you bring yourself to read the OT? It was not about what is "offensive", it was about banning.

Everything is offensive to someone at sometime or another, should we just ban it all and say screw it?
Star Wars offended some religious folks, so according to you it should be banned?

No one was lynched in Star Wars, or Sambo either.

I am against any banning of media unless it is actually harmful to someone, for example, child pornography.

And my parallel with Sambo/All in the Family/The Jeffersons all being racist still stands, they may not be completely alike, and to some they may be in bad taste or offensive, but NONE of them deserve to be banned.

I never said anything about banning it. Of course Little Black Sambo should not be censored or banned. If you want to watch it or read the book, that's your right.

I was responding to your statement in the first post, "I see nothing offensive about this cartoon, for one thing a lot of it could be interpreted in two different ways."

My post addressed why you should see it as being offensive in the context of American history.

It's not banned. You can watch it on Youtube (copyright violation?) and it's been released on DVD.
