Are We Supposed to Like these Characters?


I found both Lombard and MacMurray to be pretty unlikable in this film. Especially him. He's immature, he gets drunk on their first date, he's basically cheating on his fiancee with Lombard, he has no work ethic, and I don't really even see any sexual chemistry between them that would make up for these things.

And the way they treat the fiancee over the phone...I just didn't find it funny. Lombard thinks it's hilarious to fool this girl who hasn't done one bad thing to her. I was kind of glad when the fiancee called her to her hotel for a dressing down.

Ralph Bellamy dodged a bullet. These two characters deserved each other.
